The Start of a Revolution

I often spend time pondering my life.  I take analysis of the main components of my life and look at ways I can change/improve.  I'll assess my emotional well-being, my physical self-care, and spiritual growth.  I make goals for myself (ie: drink more water, write in my journal, read my scriptures with more attention, etc) and set out to improve myself.  Though I am always finding room for improvement in all of the areas I assess, one area constantly stands out as falling WAY short- the area of service to others.

I think that any truly well-rounded person will be engaging themselves in acts of service regularly.  I struggle to find time/opportunities in my day-to-day life to perform service for those around me.  Because of this, I had the idea to form RAK Revolution.

I have seen many Random Acts of Kindness posted online.  I am always drawn to these types of articles/posts because I think the idea is fabulous.  I haven't personally received one of these Random Acts of Kindness (or RAKs), but I can only imagine how great it would feel to know that someone is going about doing good and to receive a small token of kindness from a stranger!  I think that this idea is a great way for people to have opportunities for service on a day-to-day basis.

Reflecting on this over the past few days has inspired me to start something, a RAK revolution. (pronounced "rack", by the way).  I want to help provide the medium for many people to perform these RAKs.

My objective:  Simple- perform Random Acts of Kindness and encourage the people I encounter along the way to do the same.

My approach:  To perform these RAKs and pass along envelopes with RAK-revolution "calling cards" to help people pay it forward.  Participants will be encouraged to Instagram or tweet a picture of their RAK with the hashtag #rakrevo or #rakrevolution to be featured on the blog.  Participants may also email a description of their RAK (preferably with a picture) to rakrevo@gmail.com and their story will be put up on the blog.

My ultimate goal:  To spread these RAKs as far as possible and to as many people as possible.  I want to see RAK revolution become a resource for people to go for ideas of Random Acts of Kindness.  I think any act of service is of great benefit to both those who perform these acts as well as those who receive them.

If you want to start a RAK Revolution, please email rakrevo@gmail.com and I will email you the pdf of cards to print out and get started!
